Aadhaar card has become the most reliable document which serves the purpose of identity proof as well as address proof. To obtain this mandatory document there is no minimum age, even a newborn can get it which is called Baal Aadhaar card. Baal Aadhaar card is blue in colour and biometrics of children are not linked with Baal Aadhaar card but once they turn 5 years his/her biometrics (facial photograph, iris scan, and fingerprints) have to be updated on their Aadhaar Card. The reason behind the making the aadhaar in blue colour is for easier identification. The update is again done when he/she trunks 15 years old. The UIDAI does not charge any fees from the applicants for enrollment of the child for an Aadhaar card. The cost of the Aadhaar enrollment will be borne by the government. Here is a procedure to apply for Baal Aadhaar card for children below 5 years:-

- Visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre
- Fill the Aadhaar Enrolment Form, where you will also have to mention your Aadhaar number
- Photograph of children clicked
- Fill the address and other information asked in the form
- Submit the birth certificate of the child, it is mandatory
- An acknowledge slip will be given to you which has an enrolment number
- The enrolment number is used to check the status and can also be used to take a print of e-Baal adhaar
- Within three months the Baal adhaar will be delivered
Steps to follow if your you apply for Aadhaar for Children above 5 years
- Visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre
- Fill the Aadhaar Enrolment Form, if you don’t have valid address proof your children then fill your Aadhaar number
- Submit the relevant documents
- Biometric scanning will be done of your child- 10 fingerprints, iris scan and photograph
- An acknowledgement slip will be provided
- An acknowledge slip will be given to you which has an enrolment number
- The enrolment number is used to check the status and can also be used to take a print of e-Baal adhaar
- Within three months the Baal adhaar will be delivered
- When the child turns 15, the child will have to he has to get his biometric data updated in UIDAI’s database
List of documents which are required to submit for children below 5 years of age:
- Child’s original birth certificate
- Aadhaar card of any one of the parents
- Original copies of both documents have to be provided as well for verification
Documents to be submitted for Aadhaar for children between 5 and 15 years of age:
- Birth certificate of the child
- Identity proof- School identity card, Bonafide certificate on the letterhead of the institution, parent’s Aadhaar card, Identity certificate issued by the Gazetted Officer/Tehsildar on letterhead containing the photograph of the child
- Address proof- A parent’s Aadhaar card, Address certificate issued by MP or MLA/Gazetted Officer/Tehsildar on letterhead containing the child’s photograph, Address certificate issued by Village Panchayat head or its equivalent authority (for rural areas)
Process of Aadhar Card for Child Online Registration
- Log on to Unique Identification Authority of India’s (UIDAI) website
- Go to the Aadhaar card registration link.
- Enter all the details like name of the child, parent’s phone number, e-mail address, etc.
- Fill in the address in the address column
- Click on the fix appointment tab.
- Here select the date on which you would like to visit for the registration of aadhaar card.
- Choose the nearest enrollment centre
- On the date of the appointment visit the enrollment centre on the date of the appointment along with all the necessary documents.
- After this step, now the procedure remains the same as we discussed above.
- After the enrollment (which can be done through UIDAI’s online portal/ UIDAI nearest centres), an acknowledgement slip is provided.
- An SMS is also sent to registered mobile number post verification.
- Within 60 days after the SMS is sent by the responsible authority, Baal Aadhaar is issued for children.
